Overview
What is SolarGain?
SolarGain is a cloud-based platform built for the solar industry. It brings together test, inspection and operational data into a single system, giving asset owners, EPCs and O&M teams a clear health record of their solar assets.
What products and services does Above Surveying provide?
We are a software platform that hosts aerial thermographic and RGB inspections, topographic mapping, digital construction management, full site digitisation with our Digital Twin, and the SolarGain web and mobile platform to manage all this information.
Who uses SolarGain?
Typical users include asset owners, EPCs, O&M contractors and technical advisors – anyone involved in building, commissioning, operating and maintaining solar power plants.
Features & Functionality
Key features include dashboards for all your sites, integration of survey and inspection data, task management, mobile tools for field teams (ground inspections, task lists and serial number scanning) and construction management tools.
How does the mobile app work?
SolarGain Mobile allows field teams to capture and annotate data on site. Notes and images are geo-referenced and synced back to the main platform, keeping office and site teams aligned.
How frequently do you make improvements to SolarGain?
Above frequently makes improvements to the SolarGain portal and mobile app, based on client feedback and anticipated industry trends. The release cycles are every 2 weeks and can be accessed from the Help Centre and by
clicking here.
Data & Reporting
What inspection data can be handled?
The system supports thermal and RGB imagery, component inspection data and images and mapping information. All of this is combined into interactive maps, reports and dashboards.
How does SolarGain support decision-making?
It provides defect classification, severity grading, visual dashboards and task tracking, so you can prioritise maintenance, assign work orders and monitor plant performance more effectively.
Permissions, Access & Sharing
Clients and their nominated stakeholders i.e. "Interests" can log in securely. Permissions are flexible, so each user only sees the projects or reports relevant to them.
Can reports be shared?
Each area in SolarGain has it's own viewing permissions:
- Thermographic, EL and UHD reports: Report commissioners can share with "interest" organisations
- Development & Construction reports: Report commissioners can share with "interest" organisations
- Task reports: The Creator and Editor roles can share reports with specific users or "interest" organisations
Use Cases & Applications
At what stage of a project is SolarGain useful?
It supports all stages:
- Development and planning – Mapping and annotations
- Construction – Monitoring progress of all building stages, viewing/using annotations, creating task lists for site technicians
- Commissioning – Digital twins, progress monitoring and quality checks
- Operations and maintenance – Inspections, defect tracking, performance monitoring and warranty claims
How does SolarGain help reduce costs?
By detecting faults early, providing geolocated images for faster site work, streamlining communication, and reducing duplication of effort across teams.
Technical & Integration
Can I export or integrate the data?
Yes, reports, imagery and geodata can be exported in standard formats such as PDF, CSV and shapefiles, for use in other asset management systems. There is also an API so that the data can feed into your company's system, if required.
This video shows how Thermographic and Task Lists can be exported in various formats.
Is SolarGain web-based?
Yes, the main platform is web-based, with a mobile app to support offline and field work.
Best Practice
What’s the best way to get value from SolarGain?
Make sure all stakeholders have access, use the geolocated imagery to speed up site work, check dashboards regularly for trends, and manage work orders with task lists.
